Finding The Rare Jewel – Contentment Notes

 Finding The Rare Jewel
 A Series of Short Notes
 Contentment Note #1

Now there is great gain in godliness with contentment, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. 1 Ti 6:6

Contentment, just this word alone conjures up all of kinds of good, restful and peaceful thoughts.  For the believing Christian woman, it is the “rare jewel” found in our relationship with Christ wherein we have put off the old woman and her deeds and “put on” the new woman who is created in true righteousness and holiness. In other words, it is to “put on the Lord Jesus Christ”  and not “make provision for the flesh.”[Rom 13:14] It is putting off that old woman of the flesh and discontented spirit who murmurs, complains, nags, and grumbles about every thing and has a scowling or angry countenance. This description of one who is “discontented” really smacks us right in the heart and reveals to us there is much work to do in our walk in Christ to pursue godliness and submission to God’s Word and to change from one who “murmurs and complains” to one who “praises and glories” in God’s providence in their life and walk.

The Rare Jewel Found

The Christ-centered “hidden woman of the heart” will have a countenance of light, joy and peace emanating from her no matter what her circumstances. Her countenance will be a reflection of God’s light and glory just as it was with Moses so it will be with her. She will be in God’s Word, submitted to God’s Word, and will let God’s Word rule in her heart, mind and attitude. God has said in His Word, speaking through the Apostle Paul, “shall we continue in sin, God forbid.” [Rom 6:1] No, we shall not continue in this sin of discontentment. We shall put it off and put on Christ. We shall put off this dirty garment of complaint and put on the garment of praise. This is what we are to do to change from a murmuring, complaining woman to a woman of praise for the good of our own souls and the glory of God.

Lord of Glory, help us to be that “rare jewel” of contentment in You and Your providence in our lives with joy of heart and spirit and to reflect that glory to the world so that Your Name is glorified and extolled.  Thank you Gracious Jesus for your unlimited grace to us.  In Jesus Name, Amen.

“But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.” Rom 13:14

Because of Christ,

So good to see these notes. I was looking at my notes from our study the other day as I was unpacking books in my new home. Miss those days and the great studies we had.
