“Devotions From the Heart”
January 2015 – His Children’s Love Tokens
Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all. Psalm 34:19
The child of God WILL suffer afflictions, trials, troubles, pain, suffering and more in this life. It is the promise of our Lord Jesus Christ that as He suffered, we likewise will suffer in the world. No, we cannot know His suffering and endure what He has done on our behalf because He is very God of very God, the God Man, Christ Jesus, who alone could pay the penalty for our sins, endure that cost in all of its theological requirements to save His people from their sins and give them eternal life. Thanks be to God for His redeeming grace, mercy and gift of salvation to which we are forever thankful but as He has promised we will suffer. The beauty in our suffering is the knowledge that we belong to Christ, that we are heaven-bound, that He is our Savior, God, King and He will give us everything for life and godliness including the endurance and ability to suffer for His sake in this present world. We count it all joy to suffer for His sake and to live a life for His glory and the gospel. Lift of your hearts and sing today child of God of His glorious love and amazing grace to you and mediate upon His infallible Word of God which will strengthen you in all of your afflictions. –TG-RW*
And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. 1 Peter 5:10

“Afflictions do not come alone,
A voice attends the rod;
By both he to his saints is known,
A Father and a GOD!
Let not my children slight the stroke
I for chastisement send;
Nor faint beneath my kind rebuke,
For still I am their friend.
The wicked I perhaps may leave
Awhile, and not reprove;
But all the children I receive
I scourge, because I love.
If therefore you were left without
This needful discipline;
You might, with cause, admit a doubt,
If you, indeed, were mine.
Shall earthly parents then expect
Their children to submit?
And wilt not you, when I correct,
Be humbled at my feet?
To please themselves they oft chastise,
And put their sons to pain;
But you are precious in my eyes,
And shall not smart in vain.
I see your hearts, at present, filled
With grief, and deep distress;
But soon these bitter seeds shall yield
The fruits of righteousness.
Break through the clouds, dear Lord, and shine!
Let us perceive thee nigh!
And to each mourning child of thine
These gracious words apply.”**
