A Refreshing Lifting Walk

Devotions of Faith

* * *

For love of God and soul, what is more tender and sweet to the heart than a daily walk with our loving God. Our soul hungers for Christ’s presence as we “walk by the way” and our heart to be filled to overflowing with a “burning heart” that loves, obeys and glories in Christ and Christ alone. In days of old our sisters and brothers would go to the gardens, high places of respite, rivers, oceans and secret places to seek Christ in personal devotion, prayer and for a spiritual refreshing. Today we also partake of these walks as we “walk in the spirit” of Christ’s presence as we work, eat, rest, recreate, listen and read and seek a “secret” (private) place of refreshing.   But even in a crowded place, we can “walk” with Him in prayer, by reading His Word and by reflection upon Him.   What blessings He has bestowed upon us by His Spirit that we can be refreshed, revived and blessed by His presence by walking with Him in our heart, mind and soul and by mediating “upon the things of Christ” as we “walk by the way.” Walk with Him today and be soul-blessed for His glory and your good._TheologyGirl-ReformedWomen

“OH! for a closer walk with God,
A calm and heavenly frame;
A light to shine upon the road
That leads me to the Lamb!

Where is the blessedness I knew
When first I saw the Lord?
Where is the soul-refreshing view
Of Jesus and his word?

What peaceful hours I once enjoy’d!
How sweet their memory still!
But they have left an aching void,
The world can never fill.

Return, O holy Dove, return!
Sweet messenger of rest:
I hate the sins that made thee mourn,
And drove thee from my breast.

The dearest idol I have known,
Whate’er that idol be,
Help me to tear it from thy throne,
And worship only thee.

So shall my walk be close with God,
Calm and serene my frame:
So purer light shall mark the road
That leads me to the Lamb”*
