“When you feel as though the gale is blowing so fiercely that you’ll be plucked from your refuge under His wings, remember — nothing in all creation is strong enough to separate you from your omnipotent God! When all the forces of hell seem to be ranging about you — in your body, heart, or mind — when you can’t trust in your own ability to keep yourself securely tucked away under His wings, remember: no one and nothing is able to pry His hand open or keep you from His love. You will persevere because of His invincible love.”1/
“How precious is Your loving-kindness, O God! And the sons of men take refuge under the shadow of Your wing.” Psalm 37:6 2/
I do not care how many books one reads, studies or sermons they hear on the subject of God’s love and comfort to His people that we are not amazed and filled with wonder and joy at God’s grace and mercy to us. How much does He love us? So much that He gave Himself for us so then “shall He not also comfort us in all of our afflictions”? Yes, a resounding triumphal yes and amen! He will! He comforts His people; He comforts His sheep; He comforts His beloved bride; He comforts His children; He is our Comforter. We do not have a God and Savior who leaves His people without comfort in their times of trial and afflictions in the storms of life. No, we have a Great God with unlimited and unmeasured love and comfort to us. Our times are surely in His hands and walking through these times, whether good or bad, whether in the heights of heavens joys or in the deeps of sorrows and troubles, grief and pain, He is comforting us! He comforts us in “ALL” of our afflictions, “ALL” of our trials and even when we are unaware, He is comforting us. His presence is always with us and “He will never leave or forsake” us or “give us more than we can bear.” This is incredible when you think of it, God Almighty, Ruler and King, Creator and Sustainer of all things in heaven and earth is our Comforter! Wow, this should make even the most discouraged and stressed heart rejoice! Think for a minute about His omnipresence in your life. He is there, always, will never leave you, not even for a moment because His Spirit resides within you. Doesn’t that just make your soul soar! Like being transported high on eagle’s wings? It should and if it does not, repentance is in order. Think about this for a moment. He is our Sovereign God, watching over us and caring for us every millisecond of every day. Who has protected you in the storm, in the flood, in the fire, from earthquake and pestilence, from thieves and robbers, accidents and mishaps, disease and death, devils and men, and every other such thing? It is our loving and merciful God who loves us and comforts us “in everything.” What He brings to us through His faith and strength is that He will be with us in all of these things and that He, and He alone, is our shelter and help in time of need. The storms of this life will come; He has ordained them perfectly in our lives and in the universe for His purposes and He withholds nothing good from us. He is perfecting His work in and through us to help us love and serve Him in faith. He is teaching us to “look to Christ” and focus on Him in the trials and sufferings and not away to the world for answers and help that do not comfort or satisfy. Look at what He has said,
“I will betroth you to Me forever. Yes, I will betroth you to Me in
righteousness and in justice, in lovingkindness and in compassion. And I will
betroth you to Me in faithfulness. Then you will know the LORD.”
Does not this make your heart burn within you? Your God loves you and it is His good pleasure to comfort you. He may ordain anything He wills in your life for your good and His glory but in those things is His presence and comfort. Be encouraged today and thank Him for each moment that you have whether with affliction or none knowing that He is a merciful and loving God who is with you for eternity. We could ask no more than this: to be betrothed to our God forever!. What a joy and what peace this gives to a “marching pilgrim saint” on the way home. His promises: We can “fix our eyes” on Christ and our New Jerusalem, our heavenly home. We have an Advocate, always present, always listening, always loving and comforting His people and therein lies your peace in the storm in His everlasting arms and on His wings. Thanks be to God!
Keep loving, keep trusting! TheologyGirl
