Did the Dems Threaten ABC?

If you are considering watching the ABC special series you must read the chronological history posted over at Powerline Blog:

“The Democrats have gone nuts over the ABC miniseries, The Path to 9/11. But it’s a little hard to see why. Maybe it’s because Disney and ABC have been reliably pro-Democrat in the past, so the Dems feel betrayed.

Looking at the big picture, though, it’s a little hard to see what the Dems are complaining about. I haven’t seen the miniseries, but I take it that it doesn’t portray the Clinton administration as having taken very effective action against the growing threat from Islamic terrorists. What I don’t understand is how the Democrats think they can rewrite history to challenge that characterization.”

Books, Books and More Books!

Books, Books and More Books!

One of the great things about the Christian life is being able to read so many good books of past theologians and glean wisdom from them and to know that they, like us, all walk this narrow path in this life on the road to our Heavenly City. I am, as you know, a bibliophile to a fault. My bookstacks sometimes drive me a little crazy because they do not get read fast enough and just when I make a dent in them, another good book review, suggestion for reading, or my pastor sends out a “must read” post, and my promise that I am not-going-to-buy-a-book the next time I am in Borders Books or online shopping, or even worst, when I get those fabulous sale flyers/newsletters in the mail from my favorite book spots. If you look on the sidebar you can see I have been busy reading. Well, sure enough CVBBS has a sale, favorite authors at P&R are coming out with new books and I am tempted to buy this “just because” I will have some reading time available to me during my recoup from shoulder/arm surgery. So then friends, if you have the opportunity or need or just “want to,” or your stack is getting low, drop over to P&R, CVBBS and for the kiddos and homeschooling, Veritas.

Homeschooling Children and Praying for Mom!

I just got off the phone with another sister who is struggling with issues related to homeschooling and getting back into “the groove” and “routine” of so much to do with the covenant education of her children but also reconditioning herself to long days of teaching and oversight as well as the regular chores of the day. I can relate and was reminded that our mothers, sisters, daughters are all going through this right now and the need for us who have “empty nests” to pray unceasingly for them that God would strengthen them in all of their duties and keep them healthy, give them the opportunity for eating correctly, time for exercise and for quality time with their husbands as well as a good night’s sleep. It is a must to be a good “time manager” to not have chaos in the home. I was also reminded that many of us only have an 8-10 hour day but our mothers have a 24-hour one! God has given women a full plate and by His grace and provision we can do it all. Thanks be to God for all of His gifts.

“Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6

Jesus Welcoming Home a Martyr

Cast off thine anguish, thy lingering pain;
Still all the troubles astir in thy breast;
Hardships long suffered have not been in vain:
Thou hast been faithful – enter thy rest.Great was thy love, O dear servant, for me:
And yet thou didst suffer; high was the cost;
Thou drank of the anguish that I bare for thee,
When thou wast unseeing, incapable, lost.

Long was thy journey, thy labor most hard:
Thy gospel was slighted by Adam’s fall’n race;
Thy body was broken and battered and scarred
By those whom thou strovest to tell of my grace;

But was I not with thee each step of the way,
Comforting, strengthening in thy distress?
Gave I not mercy and peace day by day?
Humbled I not those who strove to oppress?

I savored as incense thy heart’s prayers and sighs;
Upheld thee each time thou didst fall, my dear son;
I wiped every tear from thy sorrowing eyes;
I never forsook thee, my child – well done.

Cast off corruption, mortality, death:
As thou hast labored, so shalt thou be blest.
What though escapeth thy last gasping breath?
Thou hast been faithful – enter thy rest.

“Faithful lips are not slow to give instruction….”

“My Beloved has gone down into His garden, to the beds of spices, to feed in the gardens, and to gather lilies. I am my Beloved’s, and my Beloved is mine–He feeds among the lilies.” Song of Solomon 6:2, 3

Faithful lips are not slow to give instruction. It is delight to direct others to the heavenly path. The counsel is ready, that Christ will be found in the company of His devoted followers. It has already been shown that believers are His garden. Here He has planted His precious seeds, and here He seeks His refreshing fruits.Hence enquirers are exhorted to come forth from the barren wilderness, in which thorns and briers only grow; and leave the company of worldlings, whose principles and ways are enmity to God–to break from such entangling chains–to cast away these bewitching goblets–to renounce all polluted fellowships. In this desert Christ dwells not. They who would find Him must hasten to His garden–they must join the happy flock who walk in the narrow way–they must frequent the holy ordinances, in which His truth is faithfully proclaimed.

Believers profess that here they enjoy communion with the Lord. Dwelling in this garden, each one can say, “I am my Beloved’s, and my Beloved is mine–He feeds among the lilies.” May we have grace thus to call others to be one with Christ!

Henry Law, “Song of Solomon”
