Lest We Forget…..

As we watch or listen to the news and the situation in our world and in Israel, we cannot help but be reminded of the 911 attack on our own country. I have been thinking about this often since the date for my orthopedic surgery on my shoulder/arm is set for this coming 911. It was almost like sacrilege as I thought about having surgery that day but as I continued to think about it, it brought me to the face-to-face reality of how easy it is for us in our own lives to get self-centered, stick our heads in the sand, and forget those things that have mapped out paths and events in our lives and the lives of our fellow countrymen and women and the course we are on biblically. It is like we have had our “swords” knocked from our hands and we have become complacent. Today as I am working on website updates, I was once again reminded of 911 as I listened to Laura Ingraham on her radio show re the current war in Israel and Lebanon and the real truth of terrorism. I went to her posted link and I watched, I read, I cried and I wrote:

Remember 911
lest we become soft and forget
lest we forget who the enemy is
lest we forget our duty
lest we forget to pray and
see the truth of what is happening today with biblical eyesight

and
lest we do forget to:
pray for our leaders
pray for our peacekeepers
pray for the peace of Israel
pray for the souls of lost men and women
pray for our children
pray for our enemies
and remember that our Sovereign God has placed us here for His glory.
Be stedfast, immovable and always abound in the work of the Lord and pray without ceasing.

This is a must see incredible 911 memorial and reminder, be reminded and then pray.

If My people, who are called by My name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2Ch 7:14

Joan, I watched the movie–just as unbelievable today as it was almost five years ago.

I remember waking that morning to news cast on the radio out of Denver. They reported that an airplane had struck one of the twin towers. And I am pregnant! (Isaac was born in December) and tired and I am thinking “What moron flies into the World Trade Center?!” Of course I’m not believing the news at this point and literally in a matter of minutes they report the second plane. We do not have television so we went to my mothers house and I just could not believe my eyes.

My mother remembers where she was when JFK was shot, and for years I could not imagine what that must be like. To be able to place a specific place and time in the years I have lived. Now I can too. If I had not been pregnant I do not know if it would be so clear.

I think of my children, they do not know a world without this kind of “threat”. I remember growing up in the cold war, my mother remembers the drills for “nuclear fallout”. A while back my daughter and I were in our post office and she saw a sign for a fallout shelter and asked me what that was. Amazing how the times change. I remember standing on the tallest of the two towers when I was about 11 years old with my dad and looking over the Manhattan skyline, the very idea that it is gone is something that I find hard to “wrap my brain around.” I got to stand in the crown of Lady Liberty that same summer–Amazing, something my children may never get to do unless they reopen her for tourists.

I enjoyed the poem as well. I sometimes wonder how many Americans have forgotten all ready in such a short time
